            Outreach Retreat

In September 2010, Transition House Foundation organized an Outreach Retreat for clients who use the services of Cape Breton Transition House.  20 women attended the event which was funded from donations from the public.  This was a fun weekend with lots of activities, games and laughter.
Islands, North Sydney Mall assisted us in purchasing sweatshirts for each woman.
Several people, including staff and board members, donated their time to make this weekend such a success:
Kim Boudreau - Mary Kay cosmetics.  http://ca.linkedin.com/in/kimboudreau1
Celeste Drinovz - Zumba Sydney River (Face book)
            Debbie and Michelle - http://www.facebook.com/pages/Debbie-Michelle-Performing-Live/222821157039

Some comments about what the weekend meant:
"Getting away, making new friends, laughter, feeling like someone cares about you, and you are not alone in this world."
"Getting together with a lot of amazing women that have hope and faith to work toward a great future for themselves."
"This weekend meant that everything I'm doing with my life is finally starting to make sense.  My future is full speed ahead and I'm in the driver's seat.  I have something now that no one could ever take away and that's a sense of belonging and a true support system."
"Being a part of this group of caring, loving people."
"I have had the best weekend I can recall."
"This weekend there were other people in this world just like myself.  We all have our problems and mine are not nearly as serious as some other people.  I count my blessings every day."
"Being able to be part of a group of girls, being accepted.  I enjoyed being here so much and I did celebrate my life because my life is worth it now.  You have no idea how much being here meant to me"
"It made me feel alive.  It brought out the best feelings inside me."
"It makes you feel special and it refreshes you."

            Anger Management Manual
            "Let's Get Rational About Anger"

In 2005 Transition House Foundation received funding from Government of Canada, Crime Prevention Strategy to write a manual on anger management for teens.  The manual was researched and written by the public educator for Cape Breton Transition House.  This manual is being used in several schools in Cape Breton and Victoria School Board.  Transition House Foundation assisted in funding and preparing the manual  This would not have been possible without funding from the public.
